Estate of John Ramsay deposition, 1836 Jan. 16.

The deposition, dated January 16, 1836, was made by Elizabeth Ramsay, a daughter of the late John Ramsay and a resident of the City, County, and State of New York. The document identified the heirs of John Ramsay and named them as the owners of lands in Kentucky forfeited for non-payment of taxes in 1826. The land in question was "21,000 acres on Chaplin's fork" (now Chaplin River in Washington County). The deposition was signed and attested to by Mayor C.W. Lawrence of New York [City]. A seal formerly attached to the document is also present.
